There were two major events that really sparked the revolution; The Boston tea party and the Boston massacre.
The Boston Massacre was when a mob of patriots gathered and started calling British soldiers names. They also were throwing snowballs filled with rocks. The British fired in all of the confusion and five died. The patriots exaggerated the massacre to raise feelings against the British.
The Boston Tea party was a protest against taxes on tea. The sons of liberty organized a group to go and dump tea into the harbor. So on Dec. 16, 1773, people dressed as Mohawk Indians boarded ships and dumped 342 barrels of tea into the harbor.
